It is helpful for a designer when creating your website to have a sketch of the vision you have of the website. You are not locked-in to the arrangement you create in the sketch, think of it as a draft, simply a way to get started talking about how you envision your website.

I recommend doing the sketch with paper, pencil, and eraser, the old-school way as shown in the picture below. If you have a scanner or multifunction printer, and the know-how, scan your sketch when it is complete. Creating a scanned image (a digital image) of the sketch gives you more options to send it to your designer, such as by email.

Your web designer may suggest additions or changes which are easier to conceptualize when you both are looking at the same picture. Each of the features that you would like your website to have should be indicated in the sketch.
